  Students entering Kindergarten must be 5 years old before December 31st of the registration year. Students entering Grade 1 must be 6 years old before December 31st of the registration year. Applications may be submitted starting January of the year your child turns 4 years old. In order for your application to be valid, do not start the application process before this time.

: Children can start kindergarten in the fall of if they turn 5 years old on or before Dec. 31, . This change is the result of amendments to the School Act made by the provincial government in Dec. 2017 that requires a common age of entry for all Alberta school boards effective for the school year.
